Day 6 Utah Adventure - Kittens

January 23, 2015

Today I worked at Cat World headquarters.  Headquarters is the home to cats that need a little more individual attention than the community quarters in the other areas - cats that need special diets/litter, bullies, and bully victims.  They also have a litter of kittens that were captured during a community cat colony trap and spay effort.  It was decided to adopt these guys and not return them to the community.

It was hard to get Craig's picture.  If he wasn't on my lap, he was on my shoulder purring up a storm.

Vedder liked to fight Jeff for the flying mouse toy.

Jess was a quiet little girl who waited until the 2 boys were fighting over the mouse and then took it for herself.  A born diplomat!

Jeff believes that the world should revolve around him.  With that face you can see why.

I couldn't stand the face crying at me across the hall, Pocket made sure he had plenty of lap time while I was there.  He is working on finding a diet that agrees with him.  He is an incredible cat!  Very loving.  If you have a lap he is in it!

Meet Racer (brown tabby) and Allister (orange tabby).  Although they prefer rubbing against you then sitting on your lap (although Allister makes exceptions often) they welcome the attention.

Miss Ginger has found herself a forever home.  With those beautiful markings, green eyes, and a personality that demands to be petted it is easy to see why.  Although she has litterbox issues her new owner is thrilled to have her.  Her new owner works with paralyzed cats, so the fact that Ginger gets close is an improvement.

Finnegan is a world traveler.  A contractor in the middle east was feeding him and feared for his well-being when they left their job.  Finnegan found himself on a plane and in a warm room with food on a regular basis - and his tummy shows it. His incredibly long skinny tail makes him look very regal.

You would never know Beaver was a stray.  He has a cute little bob-tail and talks to you constantly.  Most of the time the conversation varies between feed me and pet me, but I'm sure in his own home his subject matter may expand.

Dolly came to the Sanctuary with three other cats from a larger hoarding situation.  Initially they were all very shy but came out of their shells quickly.  The staff worried how Dolly would react when the other three were adopted - but she LOVES having all of the attention all to herself!

Everyone knows there are huge differences between cats and dogs with care, requirements, etc.  But it was SO apparent after spending the last 3 days with puppies and dogs.  Even the kittens were subdued compared to the puppy energy!  After the walks, puppy socialization, jumping, pulling, and catching (as they tried to escape outdoors), cats were almost meditative.  Although there is nothing like the pure happiness of a puppy, there is also nothing like having a cat purr in your lap (or around your neck - thanks Craig!).

It's hard to believe tomorrow morning is my last day at the Sanctuary.  Although the Dog Town employees asked what puppies were going to do without me, I wonder what it is going to be like to not see all these cuties every day.  Ah well, I will have to busy myself with hiking and photography.  If the weather is right I will visit Coral Springs State Park tomorrow afternoon.
