Day 8 Utah Adventure - Bryce Canyon

January 26, 2015

Today I went to Bryce Canyon National Park.  I hiked their 3 mile recommended trail - boasted as the most beautiful in the world - and noted as a "moderate" rather than easy or strenuous trail.  It was absolutely gorgeous!  Parts were tricky as snow was melting, so you encountered snow, ice, mud (3 inches in parts), and dry parts of the trail.  But it was the 550 foot elevation climb that really tested these desk legs - but as you can see it was well worth it.  I haven't had this much fun playing in mud in years!

Bryce is known for its Hoodoos - pinnacles, or odd shaped rock spires, left standing and shaped by erosion.  Although scientifically they are there due to erosion, I prefer the explanation of the Paiute Indians who inhabited this region for hundreds of years before European settlers.  The Paiute believed that the Legend People lived in Bryce and that that the God Coyote, turned the Legend People to stone for bad deeds.  A much more fun explanation for a beautiful place.
