Utah Adventure - Day 1

January 18, 2015

A toy airplane (12 rows; 24 people maximum) took me to the toy airport (2 gates and runways) of St. George, Utah.  The airport is absolutely beautiful.  Great art and up to date.  And all kidding aside, not having been to Utah before, not having to negotiate miles of gates and dealing with very helpful and friendly people was incredibly welcome.  However, I do admit I will feel more guilty dropping off a dusty/muddy car after seeing the girl personally power washing the rental cars rather than running them through an automatic car wash.

My drive from St. George to Kanab took me through the beautiful towns of St. George and Hurricane (yes, there is a Hurricane, Utah).  The colors of the rocks and the canyons are just gorgeous which made the hour and a half drive fly by - as did the twists and turns of the switchbacks through the mountains.

Kanab is a quaint two stop-light town.  It appeared completely deserted when I arrived - again a surprisingly welcome event since I had no idea where I was going.  I was free to go as slow or switch lanes as quickly as I needed to without angering others.  Only one of the two grocery stores was open on Sunday but the emptiness of the town allowed me to take these wonderful pictures of the town theater and coffee shop.

And these pictures of the surrounding countryside.

I also found Best Friends for my visit the next day.  Best Friends is in Angel Canyon and has  minimum of 1500 homeless domestic and wild creatures including horses, pigs, parrots, bunnies, wild friends (injured hawks, owls, minks, tortoises, etc.) and of course dogs and cats.  Tomorrow is my first visit to Cat World.
